How to signup

You must follow all instructions in the signup section, and the how to get vouched section before your shell will be activated. You must receive two vouches from existing members to have your account activated. You can't receive vouches until 48 hours after your email address has been validated.

Signup Steps

  1. Go to: https://account.openshells.net/signup and create a new account.
  2. Follow the instructions to validate your email.
  3. The email address you enter needs to be real. If we can't validate you through email, we will not give you a shell account.
    • Your email address is not published. Only openshell founders have access to your email address. We will never share or publish your address. Open shell members and moderators also do NOT have access to your personal information.
  4. Go to the user settings and enter an OSBot password. This should be different than your account password. Once you have done this you can /msg osbot !auth {user} {osbot password}
  5. Fire up your favorite IRC client and join #openshells on Freenode (irc.freenode.net) and make your case for a shell.

NOTE: Signing up doesn't guarantee a shell account or automatically creates it. In order to get a shell account, you should talk in the channel and get "vouched" by two members. Information on how to get vouched or how to vouch for others can be found here

How to Get Vouched

  • Join the IRC chat room and tell people something about yourself, where you are from, your profession, any cool projects you have going on.
  • Be friendly.
  • Answer peoples' questions.
  • Join in on the conversation.
  • Limit the use of profanity.
  • Don't ask for vouches.
  • Don't expect to get vouched right away, it takes time for people to become comfortable with new folks.
  • Come back often.
